Fertile Intersectional F1 Hybrids of 4x Andean Blueberry (Vaccinium meridionale) and 4x American Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon)

Vaccinium meridionale (section Pyxothamnus ), a tetraploid species native to higher altitude locations in Jamaica, Colombia, and Venezuela, is of interest breeders for its profuse, concentrated springtime flowering monopodial plant structure, both which may be useful breeding mechanical harvest. In this study, V. was hybridized successfully as male with 4 x macrocarpon Oxycoccos , American cranberry). The first-generation hybrids cranberry were intermediate morphology notably vigorous. F 1 displayed vining increased flower bud numbers, white campanulate flowers. modest fertility females upon selfing backcrossing macrocarpon. Evaluations found good pollen production range quality ranging from very poor. Hybrids functioned well males crosses that used US 1930, meridionale–V. vitis-idaea hybrid the female. suggests these hybrids, despite being derived intersectional crosses, might conventionally without significant difficulty.
